What is the The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC)?

From their own FAQ page, the WBENC states that:

The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, commonly referred to as WBENC (pronounced WE-BANK), is the leading authority on and certifying organization for Women’s Business Enterprises (WBEs) in the U.S. and U.S. territories. WBENC is headquartered in Washington, DC with 14 Regional Partner Organization (RPOs) throughout the U.S.

Each RPO processes certification applications on behalf of WBENC and adheres to stringent Standards and Procedures to maintain the integrity of the WBENC Certification program. Learn more about WBENC.

According to WBENC, their standard is the most relied-upon certification of women-owned businesses as a supplier diversity business program. This certification validates that a business is 51 percent owned, controlled, operated, and managed by a woman or women.

What does membership in the WBENC offer our clients?

WBENC-Certified WBEs use their certification credentials to gain access to WBENC Corporate Members, as well as a number of federal, state, and local government agencies.

Some key benefits of doing business with WBENC-Certifed WBEs like Lewis Bass are:

1) Tax Incentives

Doing business with a WBENC-certified WBE ( What is a WBE? ) like Lewis Bass can offer your company certain tax advantages. The federal government grants tax incentives to companies who do business with minority and women-owned small businesses.

Additionally, tax liabilities are reduced for projects funded with federal or state grants or loans when the supplier is a woman-owned small business. At the state level, additional tax incentives may also be available.

When you partner with Lewis Bass, we will provide you with our WBENC certification information needed for your company to claim these tax incentives.

2) More Business Partnership Opportunities

Many large corporations make it a policy to do a certain amount of work with disadvantaged business enterprises (DBE). For example, AT&T and its suppliers have spent over $173 billion with minority, women, service-disabled veterans, and LGBTQ+ businesses in the past 50 years through the Supplier Diversity Program. By the end of 2020, AT&T is committed to spending $3 billion with black suppliers.
